Goodbye, Lolong

Lolong, the world's biggest crocodile had attracted hordes of fans and tourists to its home in Bunawan, Agusan del Sur ever since it was declared the world's biggest reptile in captivity.  For one year and four months, Lolong became an attraction and generated income for the small, obscure (so to speak) town of Agusan.  I would also have wished to come and see for myself this incredibly huge creature that added The Philippines in the looooong list of world records but I think I would only be seeing a museum in honor of Lolong (hopefully).     Town officials have declared that Lolong had not been eating properly due to the terrible effects the recent typhoon had on the giant croc and the small town. Poor guy, the stress caused by the storm must have really caught up with him.  The experts still have not divulged the complete story  behind Lolong's death.

It was alleged that Lolong had eaten some of the animals owned by the .community where it was caught and terrible to think, the remnants of two human beings was found in its massive stomach!   Lolong was captured in the Agusan Marsh, home of a number of biodiversity and many tribal minorities.  Lolong measured 20+ feet and was declared the biggest reptile in captivity by Dr. Briton who was commissioned by Guiness together with National Geographic in 2011.  Lolong toppled Cassius, the previous behemoth croc reign as the largest crocodile ever recorded prior to Lolong's captivity.

Even though Lolong made a quick exit, his impact to the community, and still is truly fantastic for the entire Philippine archipelago, and especially the small town of Bunawan, Agusan del Sur.  RIP Lolong.
