Have time, will travel

(Manila skyline at dawn) Dear readers, the succeeding pages will take you to the interesting places in Metro Manila or even beyond Metro Manila. Some people describe Manila similar to a "balut," do you know why? It can look grotesque with all the shanties, garbage, pollution and homeless that abound the city streets, but underneath the outward ugliness, is an exciting coexistence of not only the new and old, but also of beauty and ugliness (although both concepts can be relative). Manila will not be Manila if one of these will not be present: the crazy jeepney driver, who drives like a maniac; the big malls and fancy restaurants, juxtaposed with the "turo-turos" (or point-point) because you order the dish by pointing at them; the shanties, for each have a story to tell; the homeless, who can only call the streets their home; the struggling employee, who live hand-to-mouth; the entrepreneur, the student, the promdi. I shall dedicate each page to the places I will visit and travel whether inside or outside Manila and I hope you will join me in my discovery of different areas that give meaning and excitement to our lives as denizens of this concrete jungle home that we call Manila. Ever wonder why the Jeepney is the popularly called the King of the Road? I challenge you to ride one... Manila is one of the cities that compose the National Capital Region of the Philippines. Currently, it is under the leadership of the young, energetic and idealistic mayor, Isko Moreno, whose life is very colorful and deserves a different blog entry in itself.
