It's Lenten Specials 2015 at Eat Bulaga

Image
Lenten Specials became an annual presentation by the EB Dabarkads since 1981, which was about 34 years ago.  During this season, Kapuso fans are treated to 6 different productions that showcase the EB Dabarkads' talent in drama.  Kapuso fans will see their idols portray roles which are completely opposite their natural funny characters.   So in the EB Dabarkads' tradition, we will see them again on Holy Monday, Holy Tuesday and Holy Wednesday.   I got the chance to see their Holy Tuesday feature entitled:  "Pinagpalang Ama."  The story is about a father, portrayed by Joey de Leon, who has three sons who turned out to be all gays.  Now, unlike other parents, he has learned to accept his children wholeheartedly.  One of the children, played by Ryan Agoncillo, came out of the closet rather late.  The family's problems started soon after he revealed his sexuality. "Pinagpalang Ama" is directed by Bb. Joyce Bernal.  Wally Bay...

Robotic Surgery Is Now Available at St. Luke's Medical Center Global City

Image
Speaking before the Rotary Club of Makati Dasmarinas on January 28, 2015, Dr, Rebecca Singson of St. Luke's Medical Center in Global City introduced the new method of surgery which can be used in operating cancer and ob-gyn patients.  This new method uses ultra-modern technology which is the surgical robot.  The Da Vinci Si surgical robot is the answer to surgery woes because of the many benefits it gives to patients.  With robotic surgery, the patient would not have to stay in the hospital for a lengthy recovery period.  One example that Dr. Singson cited was a jogger who was up and was jogging again just 30 days after a hysterectomy by robotic operation.   In addition to  faster healing time, the low risk of infection and complication is a plus too.  The surgical robot has four arms to precisely and accurately move inside the human body without cutting it open.   The arms of the surgical robot moves inside the human body according to t...

It is Time for that MRT/LRT Fare Increase

Image
If MRT coaches could only speak, they would probably complain about why, after 10 years of  faithful service, their chance for rehabilitation and improvement is being opposed by the very people they have dutifully serviced from the very early hours of each morning till 10 in the evening.  I wonder why some people would pay tricycles special rides 30 pesos at least, but oppose paying the same amount for a convenient MRT ride.   Can't they see how derelict the condition of our MRT/LRT system is?  If you go to the Quezon Avenue station, the escalators could hardly move and the elevators could barely carry three people.  These facilities are needed by the other abled, children and senior citizens; however, in the state they are in, climbing up the high stairs (which are dusty and sometimes sleeping quarters of the homeless and vagabonds) seem to be a faster alternative.  In the past months or years, for that matter, because of the many accidents and mishap...

How To Make a Great Hot Pot or Shabu-Shabu -- by Huat Pot

Image
Whenever the 'ber' months would begin, we could feel the air getting chilly, especially in the early mornings and early evenings.   And on seasons like this, we look for something to warm us up.  Some people want to drink hot chocolate.  Others drink their favorite flavor of coffee, or tea. While others make a mad dash for their favorite noodle house for a bowl of their favorite noodles.  One kind of food that is just fit for the 'ber' months is the hot pot.   And one place where we can get quality hot pot is the Huat Pot which is located in Greenhills, San Juan.  I've been to Huat Pot thrice already and each time I go there, the experience just gets better.   Not only is the food great, the interior is also well-designed that you don't come out smelling smoky or kind of smelling of food.          I t is easy to make a great hot pot, but Huat Pot has this easy-to-do hot pot for their customers:  1) Order s...

"Mag-internet Tayo" is the latest program from DWIZ to hit the airwaves.  It officially began August 9, 2014 and thereafter, every Saturday's 11-12:00 pm time slot was filled with engaging topics relevant to social media.   Mag-internet tayo was conceptualized by social media practitioners Juned Sunido and Arpee Lazaro, both are buzznames in the social media circle.  The show is educational in nature, with the aim of bringing to the general public information regarding the Internet and mobile technology using simple and easy language. The dynamic duo opened the program with the topic "What is social media?" with guests Carlos Celdran and Azrael Coladilla; both guests are celebrities in their own fields.  Azrael is one of the pioneer bloggers and considered an authority in the blogging world and of course, we all probably have heard about Carlos Celdran's epic protest against the CBCP back in 2010.  More interesting topics came after that, starting wi...

How I was Blown Away by "The Janitor"

Image
"The Janitor" is one of the movies that is featured in this year's Cinemalaya .  It stars Dennis Trillo, as Crisanto Espina, a cop who was suspended for shooting dead a drug user/possessor who was a minor.   While waiting to be reinstated, he works as an instructor for a security agency and it is also during this time that he was given an assignment to finish off the suspects in a bank robbery.  Among other famous names accompanying Dennis Trillo in the movie are Derek Ramsay, Richard Gomez, Raymond Bagatsing and LJ Reyes.  It is directed by Michael Tuviera.  Watching 'The Janitor' was a delight for me because Dennis Trillo just happens to be my favorite actor and to me, he can do no wrong in his acting.   What I liked about the movie :  Of course, to me, Dennis Trillo, acted excellently. He showed just the right balance of emotion in all the roles he had in the movie: as a husband, son, cop and teacher.  I liked the message of the movie...
