5 Things to do in Rodriguez, Rizal

Rodriguez was formerly known as Montalban.  It is situated in the province of Rizal, at the foot of Sierra Madre.  It is the nearest town to Quezon City, through the Payatas Road that snakes by the hillside passing by Litex and exiting to Commonwealth Avenue. Montalban started developing in the late 90s when residential homes were built.  Although many government housing projects have been set up before just like the Amityville subdivision, the development was slow because transportation was very limited.  Very few jeepneys plied the Montalban-Litex Routes and Montalban-Cubao route.  Nowadays, traffic is on a 24-hour run and many establishments are now open 24/7.    Montalban offers a mix of natural attractions and recreational activities. Here are five things you can do in Rodriguez, Rizal:

 1.  Visit Wawa Dam.  It is a picturesque reservoir surrounded by lush greenery. You can enjoy a leisurely walk by the dam area, have a picnic with family and friends, or take a boat ride on the dam.  Wawa dam was built during the American era in 1909 and supplied the water needs of Manila.  When Angat Dam in Bulacan was developed, Wawa Dam was abandoned, though there is a strong clamor for it to be reopened because of the water problem in Manila.  Wawa Dam gets busy during the weekends as many neighboring townfolks go on a picnic and spend time with their family there.  It's a popular spot for nature lovers and photographers as well.  The greenery and view by the dam is refreshing.

Rising at an elevation of approximately 426 meters above sea level, it offers a challenging yet rewarding hike for adventure lovers.
