Six Popular Chinese Films and other Activities at the 14th Spring Film Festival
Want to greet the Year of the Rat with a bang? Edsa Shangri-la, with its annual Chinese New Year treat brings you the 14th Spring Film Festival and other activities that you can enjoy with your family and friends. Make it a shopping and festivities destination this week, and hit more birds with one stone.
Beginning today, January 19, 2020, the festivities open with a Chinese Painting Exhibit and movie screening at 3:00 at the Cinema 4 at the Red Carpet. This year's Spring Film Festival features 6 movies that are of different genres.

For eight (8) days, you will have an opportunity to view these selected movies:
A. The Great Wall - an action-fantasy movie that depicts ancient China. It features Hollywood biggies like Matt Damon, Willem Defoe, with Jian Tian and Pedro Pascal.
B. The Monkey King - A HK-Chinese film about a Tang Priest who is appointed by Buddha to go to the West and fetch the sacred scriptures, only to accidentally free the Monkey King. Surreal 3D effects and kooky human-animal hybrids make this fantasy-adventure film something to talk about.
C. Little Door Gods - An animation film portraying spirits acting as guardians to a family that is facing economic hardships, in order to bring them back to prosperity.
D. Battle of Memories - A movie for those who enjoy sci-fi movies. A writer, Jiang Feng, undergoes a procedure to erase some of his memories, but an incident switches his restore card with someone else's, and upon restoration of his memories, Jiang finds himself in the mind of a serial killer.
E. Our Shining Days - A group of high school students formed a musical group and is trying to revive Chinese orchestra ensemble. They face challenges specially when they get few support as Western classical music is more preferred than Chinese orchestra.
F. Jian Bing Man, a parody on superhero movies, it is about a TV personality who needed to start making his own movies after he got involved in a scandal. He starts with a script about an alien who arrives on earth and has several silly adventures as a superhero.
Other exciting events that mall guests can also see are exhibits of Traditional Chinese painting and scrolls at the Confucius Institute Painting Exhibit, which opens officially on January 19, which is today. And the finale as the Year of the Rat approaches really fast, is the special Chinese musical event led by the Philippine Cultural College Chinese Orchestra and featuring a Wu Shu and Lion Dance by Northern Rizal Yorklin School on January 25.
On January 26, interested guests can learn all about the fine craft of traditional Chinese Art with the Chinese Painting Workshop by Art Association of the Philippines President Master Fidel M. Sarmiento and Vice President Roger Santos.
