Quick/side Trips: La Loma QC: Lechon Country

Lechon or roasted pig is a symbol of abundance so it is always served during special occasions in the Philippines: weddings, christening, anniversaries, graduations; name it.  In Manila, there is only one place people go when a special event is upcoming and they need lechon.  They go to La Loma in Quezon City.  I swear, this place is like "lechon factory."  You will see lechon lined up in many different lechon makers, all awaiting buyers.  Some have been pre-ordered and just waiting to be picked up.

There is lechon for events ranging from 20 to 160 people, of course, the smaller the size of the lechon, the cheaper it is.   But who cares about the price when you will be enjoying every mouthful of it.  The most delicious part of the lechon for most people is the cracking and crispy skin and of course, the tender and juicy flesh.  Some lechon don't need 'sarsa' or sauce, while in others, the sauce or the sarsa enhances the taste.  Nevertheless, everyone loves to see lechon on the table at any special occasion.

How to get to La Loma:

Along Quezon Avenue by Burger King, there are jeepneys plying the Banawe-Retiro St.  (Now, Amoranto) .  Get off in Retiro and take another jeepney that goes to Blumentrit.   You will pass by  many lechon makers.  The land mark here is the North Cemetery.

If you have your own ride, simply follow the jeepneys and it will take you just at the doorsteps of the lechon makers.
