It's more fun in the Philippines (especially during elections)
"It's more fun in the Philippines" is the 2012 slogan of the Department of Tourism for its promotion of the Philippines in order to attract tourists, something that I was never convinced about from the start, BUT that might just change now as election fever started or shall we say, that the "circus" has arrived. If you were monitoring the characters or personalities or whatchamacallit, that filed their certificates of candidacy for the 2013 elections, you'd be surprised at the vast reserve of talents (OMG) that we have. I did not realize there were a lot of Dolphy-wannabes in this country. The supply is overflowing it can keep a comedy club open for 24 or more hours.
It seems that every election season we keep adding more clowns or discovering more comedians. The new addition to the portfolio is the 'brother-in-law' of the incumbent president who claimed that he is married to the president's celebrity sister, Kris. I know that her marriage was annulled recently, but I did not hear that she remarried. Someone is really hallucinating. As if that's not much already, celebrities and other personalities who absolutely have no background or experience in legislation or running even a barangay, also decided to file their candidacy! What were these people thinking? Just because they are one of the lucky ones who were born to a political dynasty or were the talk of local tinseltown (during their heydays), their victory is guaranteed? Some people should realize that even if the Philippines is a free and democratic country, being a nuisance candidate during elections is not one of their constitutional rights. So, they better stop making a mockery out of the elections and show some respect for the voting public.
But it is not all bad news though as there are those that I am glad are joining the race in 2013. At least, those candidates that I want to vote for and those I believe will be able to deliver and serve their constituents well and have also performed well during their past terms. Although I don't think I can come up with a complete list of 12 names as there really is a shortage of principled and deserving candidates. Tsk, tsk. I never thought coming up with a list of 12 names could be tough, where have all the good men gone?
