Where to Eat in Liliw, Laguna: Chef Mau

If there is something that I will bet that will make people come to Liliw, it most definitely will be Chef Mau's restaurant.   Liliw is one of the smaller towns of Laguna, a province in the south of Luzon.  It is popular for its shoe industry that is really gaining attention and popularity nationwide because of their colorful appearance and casual appeal.   Chef Mau's is a motorists dream because of the big serving and very reasonable price of  their menu which is a combination of local and international fare.

A small serving of hotpot would be a good opening salvo, especially on rainy days.  Not only is it tasty but also very filling.  As you can see, there are heavy contents to it.  It's already a complete meal itself. Aside from the common spices, Chef Mau's hot pot has thin noodles, slices of meat and thin egg fries that add to its substance. This serving costs only  P80.

This number is not your usual pansit because it is pansit lechon. It's the usual pansit but Chef Mau's creativity made it an original creation.  This serving is good for two or three people and costs a very affordable P110 only.

According to one frequent customer, this is one of Chef Mau's bestseller, it's stuffed eggplant.  The main ingredient of the stuffing is pork sausage.  I love this because the crispiness does not hurt my teeth and the sauce is not overwhelming.   A serving costs P90 only.

Though chicken cordon bleu is also served by other restaurants, I liked Chef Mau's cordon bleu because the chicken is soft and the sauce has a subtle taste to it.  This serving might be good for 1
person only, otherwise 2 or more people sharing it will be disastrous.

Does this remind you of a tortang itlog or omelette?  It is vegetable and squid fritata that I personally ordered because I like omelettes such as cheese, tuna, etc.    Fritata is the Italian equivalent of omelette.  It really looks easy to prepare if you like simple cooking.  Adding an herb ingredient to it should do the trick.  This is only P80 a serving.

Can you guess what this is?  Of course the topping is the famous cheese/ube (purple yam) ice cream, but the base is cassave cake. Cassava is a kind of root crop that is often used in native deserts not only in the Philippines but also in other countries where cassava is bountiful.  Cooking cassava must be done very carefully and expertly because it contains toxins.  This desert is aptly called: cassava a la mode.

If you ever find yourself cruising by Liliw, don't forget to make a stop at Chef Mau's and try their dishes which will really make you come back again.  This 'bahay kubo' is far from simple, literally and figuratively.  The place is welcoming and kept clean by the hospitable staff.
